Door County residents! The thrill that is the Aisle of Shame just might be heading to Sturgeon Bay. That’s right, Aldi wants to build a store on the west side of town. Here’s what we know:

District 4 Supervisor, Spencer Gustafson, posted on his Facebook page that Aldi is interested in Door County, more specifically, Sturgeon Bay. “The proposed location would be in the vicinity of the Highway 42/57 and South Ashland Avenue intersection. The exact layout is still being finalized, but plans are moving forward.”
Gustafson also mentioned that Aldi typically likes to move quickly, and he hopes that the build could start sometime this year.
In this time of rising grocery prices, this could be seen as great news for Door County residents. However, I know that some people might not be too crazy about another chain store heading into the community. I get it; Door County is a treasure, and part of the reason is because of the uniqueness of all the stores up and down the peninsula. But, but, this is Aldi. Comments on Gustafson’s original post are mostly positive; several people pointed out the need of a grocery store on the west side of Sturgeon Bay.
What say you, Door County peeps! How do you feel about this news?
