Everyone says you can find canning jars at thrift stores, or if you frequent rummage sales. Well, where I live in Wisconsin, thrift stores are charging more than $1 a jar, and that’s for regular mouth, and oftentimes, they’re flawed. I really don’t do rummage sales, either. Sometimes, it’s easier to buy new. Right now is a great time to do it because stuff is on CLEARANCE! I always figure if I can get jars for under a dollar a piece, it’s a win.
Blain’s Farm & Fleet – Roots & Harvest Electric Water Bath Canner — Clearance $99 (regular price $150). I fell in love with Blain’s for canning when I could find the Kerr 8oz jars there. They also have a much bigger canning selection than Fleet Farm. Mrs. Wages mixes are 15% off right now. They also have a great supply of canning accessories like pour lids. Great news that they ship as well, although there is a $5.99 fee.
Meijer – Select Ball items, including cases of jars, are now 40% off. I picked up the limited-edition Americana jars that were put out for the nation’s 250th so I can make some Christmas gifts. This is the best price I’ve seen on these particular jars. There WAS an mPerks coupon as well that doesn’t appear to be active anymore, even though it shows up on select items.
Fleet Farm Right now, Anchor Hocking brand jars are on clearance, and they are less than a buck a jar. I have had ZERO issues with the brand, and now it’s my preferred brand. The downside of Fleet is they rarely have a shipping option available. This week, the Americanner brand canning jars and lids are BOGO 20% off. I have not tried this brand, so if you have, let me know in the comments if you like them! Fleet also gets bonus points for other food preservation items like vacuum sealers, dehydrators, and even a freeze drier!
