I don’t know about you, but in our house, we seem to accumulate a lot of expired and unused drugs for a variety of reasons. A change in dosage, a change in prescription, or simply not using OTC meds before the expire are just a few of the reasons you might have drugs you don’t need anymore. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is sponsoring a Drug Take Back Day starting April 20th.

In communities across the state, people are invited to safely dispose of unused or expired medications through this free, no-questions-asked service. Proper disposal helps:
✔️ Reduce the risk of accidental misuse or overdose
✔️ Keep medications out of the hands of children and pets
✔️ Prevent harmful substances from entering our water systems
Both prescription and over-the-counter medications will be accepted and responsibly handled by public health professionals. This is a great opportunity for individuals, families, and organizations to take a proactive step toward a safer and healthier community.
While the majority of the Drug Take Back events are being held on April 25th, several communities will be having drop-offs as early as April 20th. For a detailed list of dates and times for your community, click here.
If you can’t make any of these events in your community, check with your neighborhood pharmacy; some will collect unused meds. Another option is to see if your local law enforcement agency has a collection box available year-round.
