Strawberry picking season is winding down in this part of the state, and select farms are picking raspberries. When summer raspberries are ripe, that means Sweet Tart Cherries are right behind them! If you’re not sure where to go, I’ve got a little guide to all things Door County Cherries.

The great thing about this list is that a lot of these farms and orchards have other things, like homemade maple syrup, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries, sweet corn, and then pumpkins and/or apples in the fall. I’ve been to a number of these places both as a kid and as a mom, and a great time was had by all no matter where we went. (Except that one time I was picking cherries with my four kids, and they were arguing so much that my mother and sister, whom I did not know were also going picking, found us in the orchard because they recognized my children’s screeching.)
Sweet cherries are already ready at some orchards, and they always sell out fast! Some orchards will pit your cherries for you for an additional fee. Can’t make it to Door County? Several orchards and businesses appear at Farmer’s Markets around Northeastern Wisconsin.
Things to Bring: Water, Camera, Picnic Blanket (lunch), Bug Spray, Sunscreen,Containers/Cooler (to transport cherries home) (some prefer ice to cold water for transport), CASH (some orchards do not accept credit/bank cards)

Wisconsin U-Pick farms is a resource for Fruit and Vegetable picking in Wisconsin. There’s a lot of information on there including out-of-date stuff and a ridiculous number of pop-ups, but some of you may find it useful.
